I have had this insulated bottle milk holder hanging around the shop for I don’t know how long and decided the other day its time to do something with it. And by the looks of it it really needed help!

I scrubbed it down really good with soap and water and then went over it again with rubbing alcohol, then lightly went over it with some sanding paper.

For the base coat I had a quart of pale peach color, I applied 3 good coats of the shade, after it dried I decided I wanted some kind of design for the background so I took some paper doilies that I have had sitting around forever, laid them in different directions to give an airy effect and pounced the green and purple shades of paint using a sponge onto the holes in the doilies.

After the background dried I sketched my sunflowers, leaves and stems on to the surface. I painted the sunflower petals with a light brown, dried brushed marigold and old parchment. The center is painted using chocolate cherry, light brown and light brown and white mixed, the petals are highlighted with chocolate cherry. Now remember you can use any shade you like, these are just the shades I used.

The stems and leaves are painted with kelly green and dried brush with leaf green and kiwi and highlighted with black.

The top I hand painted “Milk” using kelly green with black highlight and I thought the bees would be cute as well.  After the piece dried I sealed it with 3 coats and exterior varnish that is available at your local arts and crafts store.

I think this old bottle milk holder is really going to look cute outside my front door and since I know the milk man won’t be around to deliver milk (yes I remember those days) I found some milk bottles that I have had for years and painted those to go with my milk container.

I think they will add as a great accent piece!

Have a great day!
